The Nobel Prize Award Ceremonies - Live Coverage from Stockholm

Live coverage from Stockholm. Nobel Prize Award Ceremonies.

At the time of writing, 21.02, there is a live show in the Stockholm Town Hall. The lights are dimmed to blue shade. There are men and women in what seems like old fashioned medieval clothing, colours pink, cream, bordeaux red, dancing and singing. Walking through the audience, wandering.

They have all sat down on the stairs, forming a constellation that almost looks like a flower. Two huge gold coloured doors are opened as a new chorus of the haunting, beautiful melody is started. The pink and candles contrast against the blue and turquoise of the surroundings. A man comes running with a spear and helmet, says goodbye to the woman in gold and leaves, much to her disappointment.

The doors close and the music dies. A woman starts singing in opera style. The lighting changes to rose red on the stone walls of the Stockholm town hall. Slowly, the medieval singers in pink dress start singing together, it appears improvised, but it sounds incredibly perfect. The lady in the gold dress is back to singing solo. The music is accompanied by what appears to be 4 oversized sitars.

The camera pans in from a different angle and shows the people singing in excitement and wonder. Something is about to happen. The man with the spear descends again from the huge staircase. The gold doors open, the woman in gold looks out and welcomes him back. He walks in with a bloody scar on his cheek, proud, well and smiling. He takes the woman in gold by the hand and they descend further on the staircase. They stand smiling and singing in front of the rest of the singers.

The only one who doesn't sing is the man with the spear. He makes a huge impression anyway. It's all about him. Oh, he does sing now. A bit. The singing continues clear as heavenly choirs, and ends in a sudden last final perfect note.

Down the stairs come waiters with flaming desert dishes, all dressed in white.

The show with the singers has ended. Desert is taken to the tables and the evening with important diners and prize takers on their one-day a year night here in the cold, dark north continues.

The name of the show is "Sankt Goran and the Dragon".
